NEW IBERIA, La. (KADN) — In Iberia Parish, there are new efforts in support of an 11-year-old girl who is accused of a New Iberia murder.

The group, Village 337, rallied outside of the Iberia Parish Courthouse on Tuesday, Jan. 9.

Members say the child, who was appearing in court, has already been in jail for more than 40 days and they are hoping she will be released before she goes to trial on March 7.

The group is trying to bring attention to the crime and help to get to the bottom of the circumstances around the murder.

The 11-year-old is accused in the shooting death of Kameran Bedsole, 36, of New Iberia, who was killed on Nov. 15, 2023.

The child's 15-year-old brother was arrested and charged as well. The children's mother, Sabrina Washington, 40, is accused of helping them cover up the killing.

Organizers say they just want to ensure the child is protected and knows her rights.

Evolve Louisiana, a group out of East Baton Rouge Parish focused on rebuilding impoverished communities, says it is hoping the 11-year-old girl will be released to her family sometime soon.
