Truck overturned at Exit 92 in Duson
Duson, LA (KADN)- “We were actually coming to get gas and when I pulled up, I was like what’s going on,” Chad Louis Clark responds to the overturned truck on the exit 92 off ramp.
“I saw him coming and then I saw him flip. I was like omg mom I got to get off the phone. She was like okay, okay, okay call me. I got off the phone and called 911,” says Twanna Foster.
Twanna Foster’s break at one of her regular rest stops turned out to be less of a break than she anticipated.
“I proceeded to talk to him. I asked him does your neck hurt, head hurt, back hurt? He said no my should, my ribs, I can't breathe,” explains Foster.
Foster’s coaching helped keep the driver of the 18-wheeler calm while the overturned truck leaked diesel fuel and acrylic acid, Foster has 30 years of experience driving trucks. She says the exit ramp where the incident took place can be tricky.
“The first time I took the curve I was like — and there you go. It doesn't look as though it’s as sharp as it is. That’s why drivers have accidents there,” Foster shares.
This accident leaves behind more than scattered truck pieces. Duson Fire Station and Lafayette Hazmat responded to contain the harmful acid leaking from the tank.
“We tried to stop it. We were unsuccessful. So, what we’re doing now is containing that specific chemical to one area. This is going to be an all-day process,” says Duson Fire Chief Coby Duhon.
In addition to clean up of the area, there’s one thing the 30-year truck veteran wants to come out of this process.
“They need to put some signs or something up or put a sign before you exit saying slow for the curve. Something,” explains Foster.
