LAFAYETTE, La. (KADN) — A high school basketball coaching legend surprised his team before its big game against a rival after he was away for several months due to health issues.

There was heartfelt story from St. Thomas More on Friday, Jan. 26. Coach Danny Broussard entered through a side door so he could surprise his team. The moment he walked through that door, he received a very warm welcome from his players.

Like a duck to water, Coach Broussard went right back into coaching.

"We got an opponent, Teurlings; we got a good opponent," said Coach Broussard. "It's a district battle. They are crosstown rivals. They are going to up the intensity and they are going to be fired up to play! We need to match that intensity."

"The last time I got nervous was my first time coaching in 1983. Kind of nervous again. It's funny. It's like doing something new. I'm excited about being back up. I missed our guys. I missed the competition and I missed what I do for living," explained Coach Broussard.

He also thanked all of those who reached out with well wishes on his recovery.

The Cougars roared to a 61-46 victory over the Rebels.
