NEW IBERIA, La. (KADN) – An 11-year-old girl will stay in jail for now, while waiting to go on trial for murder.

The girl is accused of the shooting death of a man who was found along Jasper Road in New Iberia in November.

The victim was Kameran Bedsole, 36, of New Iberia.

The girl's 15-year-old brother is also charged with Bedsole's murder.

The groups Village 337 and Evolve Louisiana were at the Iberia Parish Courthouse on Thursday, March 7, to show their support for the 11-year-old during a juvenile court hearing.

The advocates said they want to remind people that although the girl is charged with murder, she's still just 11 years old.

The children's mother, Sabrina Washington, is also in jail.

She's accused of helping her kids cover up the murder.

The advocacy groups added they just want to ensure the 11-year-old girl is protected and knows her rights.

The judge in the case ruled Thursday afternoon that the girl will remain in custody until her trial takes place.

It's now set for next week.

The delay comes at the request of the girl's defense lawyer.
