Carencro,La(KADN)- The city of Carencro currently has two bus stops, one right in front of Amazon and another right down the street at Walmart. Public transportation has been a struggle for Carencro residents for years.
"They got one bus stop by Walmart, if you have to go across the bridge you have to walk," says one Carencro resident.
Though, it's a thing of the past as you'll be able to ride the bus throughout the city of Carencro starting Monday.
Mayor Charlotte Clavier says there is a substantial population in Carencro without a car or with one car per family. "It gives another option for someone that needs to get from point A to point B. This would help people get around town and do what they need to do to handle their business. So I'm excited about it."
The bus route will operate Monday through Friday morning and afternoon, also with a Saturday morning route until 11:00 am.
Mayor Clavier explains this won't be the final route as she is keeping Carencro High students in mind. "As long as you have an id for a Lafayette Parish school you ride the bus free. We are working on making some tweaks. If kids have an afterschool activity and they can get on the bus and get closer to home."
Frequent bus rider Richard Garner sees bus transportation as a plus for the city of Carencro believing it comes with many benefits. "A bus would really come in handy to get you from point A to point B. Doctors appointments, hospital work, shopping."
The city plans to run the route for a month before changes are made. For those with thoughts of potential stops, you are asked to call city hall at (337) 896-8481.
