Persistence Pays Off: Lizzie Adams

Lafayette, LA (KADN) -- Practice is the closest Lizzie Adams has come to playing in a volleyball match at ESA ever. She's a senior, but she has missed every game in her career because of various preseason injuries. 2021 is her last shot, but this summer she fractured her back slipping on water on stairs.

"I started immediately crying," Lizzie said. "I didn't want to miss any one of the games. I wanted to be here for the team."

Lizzie was devasted but six weeks later her doctor had good news

"He said that the bones I fractured this time were the most unless bones in the back and if I am not in pain I can play," Lizzie explained.

Her teammates say watching Lizzie persevere is inspiring.

"Everytime she gets here we have to like push hard for her and we see how hard she works so it just makes us want to work even harder," Lizzie's friend on the team Peyton Stokley said.

Lizzie says she avoids over-exerting herself and just ices herself when she leaves here for at least 15 minutes but she still doesn't escape the jokes from her two older siblings.

"They called me clumsy and they said I couldn't stop falling," Lizzie said.

"Well they aren't wrong," Peyton explained laughing, "But she's working on it!"

Lizzie was the team's statistician while she was out, but now the clock can't wind down fast enough. Her heart is racing for her first high school match on August 31st.
