LAFAYETTE, La. (KADN) — The Louisiana Ragin' Cajun baseball team dropped the first game of a weekend series against Rice at "The Tigue."

The Cajuns (3-2) fell 2-1 to the Owls (2-3) on Friday, Feb. 23.

Jack Martinez (0-1) started on the mound for UL and took the loss. He gave up both runs by Rice on four hits, with three walks and four strikeouts. Those three walks came in the first three batters he faced on the night.

As a group, the Cajun pitchers struck out 13 batters but walked seven others.

Rice scored its runs on a sac fly in the first inning and a throwing error in the third. Louisiana was held scoreless until getting a run on a sac fly in the bottom of the sixth inning.

UL right fielder Luke Yuhasz was 2-for-3 on the night with one RBI.

The Owls left 12 runners stranded.

The teams face each other again on Saturday at 2 p.m.
