The St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating a homicide in the Opelousas area. According to Sheriff Bobby Guidroz, his office received a call just after 11:00pm on July 16 for a shooting near Scattered Acres Road and I-49 South. 

Detectives with the Lafayette Police Department are investigating a homicide that took place Sunday night. According to police, officers responded to the 100 block of Vaucluse Drive, due to a shooting in progress. When officers arrived, they found 18-year-old Joshua Cobb of Abbeville dead on the scene. Investigators responded to the area and are following leads. 

On 06/20/2023, The Lafayette Police Department with the assistance of Harrison County Sheriff’s Office arrested a second suspect in connection with this homicide investigation. The suspect is identified as a one Milford Cumberland III, 55, of Gulfport, Mississippi. Milford Cumberland, III has been charged with one count of accessory after the fact to first degree murder. He was booked into Harrison County Jail and is awaiting extradition back to Lafayette. Justin Lee Webber is already in the Harrison County jail on one count of 1st degree murder.

Louisiana ranks fifth in the nation for domestic homicides.

 Louisiana is ranked fifth in the nation for homicides involving domestic violence. In 2018, Title 35 was put in place to allow officers to remove guns from the possession of someone convicted of domestic violence.
