Carencro High student gunned down while getting off school bus

LAFAYETTE PARISH, La. (KADN) — Deputies with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office said a high school student is dead after getting shot while getting off a school bus.

The victim was identified Jaylin Joiner, 18, a student at Carencro High School.

Investigators said it happened on Bradford Drive, which is right outside the Carencro city limits, on Friday, March 1, just after 3 p.m.

Deputies with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office said a high school student is dead after getting shot while getting off a school bus.

A neighbor said he heard two shots, then heard two more shots and people yelling.

He added deputies are canvassing the neighborhood with K-9 units, with Carencro police assisting.

Deputies said it is believed several people are involved in the shooting and at least person has been detained.

The investigation is ongoing.

The Lafayette Parish School System issued a statement calling the death "tragic" and indicated counselors will be available for students when they return to school on Monday.
