GUN VIOLENCE WORRIES COMMUNITY package

New Iberia, La. (KADN) - In New Iberia, violence has become a nagging issue for the residents. The community of New Iberia is mourning the loss of one person found dead and another being shot all in one day.

"They killing too many people around here and no one is doing anything. You say something around here and they know you said it. They going to smoke you. That's why I don't mess with nobody I mind my business," says New Iberia resident Albery LeBlanc.

News of a body being found decomposing in a car still has the community completely devastated for the family.

LeBlanc sends his condolences to the family, knowing getting the phone call was not an easy one. "It's really sad because people don't have love and respect for anybody. You know a person will do that to somebody, kill somebody and just leave them there. You reap what you sow."

"I think it's getting worse," confessed Malcolm Bonin.

Bonin has noticed the recent spike in crime in the city lately. Sometimes, he doesn't want to turn the television on scared of more bad news.

Bonin wishes more people would speak up. "Every day you hear nothing but shooting. I mean if somebody would be open.. And start saying things cops and everything."

No more silence… stop the gun violence is a movement in the city New Iberia Police have been pushing to encourage the community to start speaking out on the gun violence plaguing the city.

Police are pleading with the community to help them solve these violent crimes, a hard ask for a city in fear.
