NEW IBERIA, LA (KADN) - When the covid pandemic hit, small business owners across the country scrambled to stay afloat but one business in new Iberia plans to buck the odds.
As we enter yet another year of the pandemic many businesses have struggled to stay afloat or had to close their doors because of covid 19.
Now as we enter into this new year businesses like church alley cafe and bistro found a way to weather the storm.
Nicole Delahoussaye mentioned, "I'm definitely a believer of when things happen organically and there's not too much obstacles that it meant to be."
The owners, Nicole Delahoussaye and her husband believe small businesses are the backbone of the community which is why they felt it was important to bring a coffee shop to the area.
"There are no other locally-owned noncorporate coffee shops in the area there are no other places like this in the downtown area and everything with this project has been seamless and easy and yes we've had challenges but it felt meant to be."
As a resident of New Iberia Kinzie Ray says this is something the city needed and will benefit from in the future.
"It's beneficial to our town because we don't have things like this over here its mostly fast food or restaurants its not little cafes that you come and grab breakfast or grab coffee everything's mostly drive-throughs or you sit down for dinner it's not a lot of breakfast so it awesome to have a little café like this that's open."
One of the many challenges that arose during the process of starting the business was making sure the environment was safe for employees and customers.
"Most of our employees are vaccinated or they have the antibodies from already having the virus it's just been a little challenging to make sure everyone stays safe and that's our main priority."
The owners of Church Alley Café & Bistro say this is something New Iberia wants and they're excited to bring new things to the city.
